Most of you know that Genesis is a tale of two bands – the Peter Gabriel Genesis and the Phil Collins Genesis. This Phil Collins led album, “Genesis” moved the band continued into the pop realm and further away from their more experimental concept album roots, but it works and it is frankly a fantastic album that I am able to revisit over and over through the years. The instrumentation is pure electronic/synth but it is high quality and well thought out. There is excellent variety in the songs and indeed there are a few real standout songs such as “Home by the Sea” , the crazy “Illegal Alien”, and “Mama” a song that I frankly just can’t classify.
